I need a new ecu for my car. I have a 1998 s70 glt auto. My question is can I use an ecu out of a 98 t5 with a 5 spd trans.

So first off can I use a t5 ecu on my car?

If I can does it make a difference if it for and auto or 5spd.

 

The T5 should work fine from either manual or auto car. But only a 98 computer will work.

For older cars here is a list of what will work for what cars.
94-95 T-5 ecu will work in a 96-97 T-5 but will throw a code for no egr
96-97 T-5 will work in a 94-95 T-5 AND you get the added bonus of egr delete
96-97 T-5 will work flawlessly in a 97 GLT and will not damage any controls or throw a cel
Nothing 94-97 will work in a 98 unless you dont want your a/c or defrost to ever work again
Nothing from a 98 will work in a 94-97 unless you dont want your a/c or defrost to ever work again.
A 5 speed ecu can be used in an automatic of the same model year and wont throw a code.
An automatic ecu can be used in a 5 speed of the same model year BUT will throw a code.

So putting a 98 t5 ecu in a 98 glt will not hurt the car?

 

Should not hurt it at all.

Alot of people who get the ECU's programmed (Chipped) get a T5 program and put it in the GLT'S.
