Default 1998 S70 ABS Brakes lights problem.

Just got my first Volvo.........it won't be my last for sure, a cracking car and just what is needed for my bike track day hobby.

I bought the car for a song, it having one or two faults of which I have sussed out 90%.

1/Needed some new switch gear, inc. driver side window etc. pack. A quick root round on ebay got this.

2/Needed two front indicators, these were full of water. Again ebay did me proud.

3/The woman who owned it must have been spraying hairspray round like an F1 GP winner.......you couldn't see through the stuff on the rearview mirror. That ebay job is getting some praise today.

4/She must have swept all the leaves from the garden into the car. These have been cleared out and put on my compost heap.

5/She also must have been running the car on petrol all the time because she didn't realise she had an LPG kit fitted. This, with the aid of a mate in the trade, is now set up and works perfectly.

6/THE REAL HASSLE WITH THIS LOVELY CAR AND THE REASON SHE WANTED RID, FROM ALL ACCOUNTS IS..................

a/ The awful mechanical whurring coming from the passenger side front bulkhead area.

b/ The ABS light being intermittent with the service light. When unlit the whurring is accompanied by the grating of the brakes.

c/ When travelling at lowers speed the noises, grating and pulsating pedal persists. However, increase speed to 60mph plus, the ABS light stays on and braking is smooth, in a straight line and as far as I can tell, perfect.

I have replaced the front discs and pads for new. The old ones look pretty good to me, however. The problem seemed to improve but now is there most of the time.
When the car travells at over 50/60mph it feels fine.

Would it be the ABS module and pump and/or ABS ring?
I need to clear the computer to get the service light out and possibly the ABS light.

Some advice would be helpful.....I know it is probably safe to drive with no ABS (some would say safer!!!) but I just don't feel confident enough in the brakes to give it some wellie.

Much appreciated and many thanks, in advance.

the ABS module seems to be a common problem. My mechanic sent it to be rebuilt for a couple hundred bucks. ABS light now normal, brakes feel great.

Check speed sensors in wheels, they are magnetic and pick up brake dust causing false readings for ABS. the afore mentioned abs module could also be going out. easier (and cheaper) to check speed sensors first. Best of luck

Got a 98 S70 on Saturday and the ABS and Trac Off lights stay on...probably the module then?
