I have a 1998 S70 with 256,000 miles. We have kept this in great shape and runs great.

The problem is my daughter who drives it said over the last 8 months or so it has cut off while idling and has had the rpm drop at times.
last week the check engine light came on but the car is running great and I have just serviced it a few weeks ago with oil change, new spark plugs, air filter, cleaned throttle body, rotor and cap.
I went over to a local shop to have him check the orb-II plug in and the outlet in the center console is not putting out anything. He checked with a 12volt test and there is power on the one end of the plug.
His snapon tester won't display anything but we pluged it into another S70 there and worked just fine.
I know it was working about 1 year ago.
So we unhooked the negative side of battery and reset it so no more checkengine light, but last night it came back on. Any suggestions to look at?
He said probably the computer will have to be replaced and that we could just use a used one. just want to get other opinons on this matter.
I have checked under the plug and all wires seem to be hooked up.

Hard to tell what is going on without know what the code is. It could need a new computer or it could be something a lot simpler.

 

How old is the battery? Have you had it tested? It can be frustrating chasing a ghost. Until it stops running you need to keep your phone charged.
