Default 1998 S70 Service light

Ok, I've searched and read the various and differing info. Can someone PLEASE give me the straight scoop on how to reset the damn service light on a 1998 S70 T5. If a tool is needed a link to one that will actually work would be appreciated. The light on our new to us car came on and it obviously annot be reset like on our old 850.

Many thanks,

Glenn

You need a tool. Sorry, I don't have a link because I don't know for sure which aftermarket tool works. I use the Volvo one.

Easiest way to do it is purchase a copy of VOL-FCR and a VAG-COM KKL cable. Thankfully, these cheaper programs work great with 1998 models. Unless you have an older laptop with a serial port, the provided cable with VOL-FCR will probably not work, even when used with a Serial to USB adapter.
VOL-FCR: Volvo Serial Diagnostic Cable PC Based Code Reader and Live Data Scan Tool | eBay
VAG-COM KKL Cable: VAG com KKL 409 1 OBD2 USB Cable Auto Scanner Scan Tool Audi VW Seat Volkswagen | eBay

They say you need a laptop with Windows XP, but the cable and software work on Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8/8.1, and 10. Not sure about Mac or older versions of Windows.

Just pull the bulb; it's just a service reminder.. any DIYer keeps track of mileage and work done..

Could do that, but that is a LOT of work just to pull a bulb

Pulling the bulb is only a 30 minute job. It will take you longer to pay $45 for the tool I have.

Hi Robert,

I took the dash apart on our 95 850 a few years back to fix the odometer and getting it back together was a PITA. Do you have a video or instructions I ould look at on taking apart the dash to get to the bulb on an S70? If not, can you give me some info (part number, seller, where you purchased...) for the tool in your video. I could purchase one and use it on our S70 and maybe a couple friends cars too.

Thanks,Glenn

Here's Robert's video for dash pad removal and cluster removal...
It's not too hard. I did it the other day to replace a bulb in my cluster. Just make sure you disconnect your battery first to avoid setting off the SRS light.
