Default 1998 s70 valve cover removal

I have a 1998 s70 glt in my yard. I bought it for the parts and I've taken everything I've needed from it. Instead of getting rid of it or selling it, I figured I would take some parts apart to learn a little first hand experience (I am only 17 and I'm in a couple automotive classes). So I went to remove the valve cover but it does not seem to want to come off. I removed all the bolts on the top of the cover, removed the distributor cap, the upper timing belt cover to access some hidden bolts and basically everything that I could see. I tried hitting it a couple times with a mallet thinking it may be adhered by the gasket but it still will not budge. Is there anything that I could be forgetting about? I'm not sure if there is already a thread on this but I looked around and couldn't find anything. Any advice is appreciated.
