Default 1999 S70 Electrical Problem

1999
S70
150000miles
Automatic 2.4L non-turbo

The car as of late has had a problem with the electrical system.
Symptoms include all of the dash electronics lights, gauges, A/C, Wipers, and power windows all don't work for about the 1st 15-20min that the car is driving then they all come on. The SRS light is also on but I think that is an separate issue. I can't just idle the car for 15-20min I must drive it before the electronics come on. I assume it’s a short or some kind of electric module going out but I don’t know where to start trouble shooting any suggestion? Thanks beforehand.

When it happens try playing with the ignition switch and see if everything starts working. You might have a bad electrical part of the ignition switch.

Interesting I will have to try that because I did used to have an excess number of keys on my key ring. So bottom-line I need to jiggle the keys in the ignition to see if the item will come on and if they come on it’s an ignition system component that’s bad right? Thanks

Tried what you suggested. Started the car and turned it started right up. Then I switched on the windshield wipers which didn’t come on. I then started jiggling the keys in the ignition and the car stalled. I again repeated the process this time w/the A/C and the same thing started I jiggled the keys and the vehicle stalled again. Any more ideas to troubleshoot or narrow down the problem?

When you slightly wiggle it that shouldn't stall the car. How loose does it feel?

It still might be that or it could be many other things. Common signs of the ignition bad is no Headlights,Wipers, ABS and SRS lights on all the time till it goes normal.

Two questions
1st What specific component of the ignition would you suggest that I change out?
2nd If I change any of those items do I need to get the keys reprogrammed?
all the symptoms you named goes with whats happening in my car.
Thanks for all the help so far because this is really stomping me.

You only need to replace the electrical part. No programming needed.

That is the part you need to try first.

Looked in my repair guide and it said that the entire ignition lock cylinder/switch is one unit that has to be replaced as a unit can I replace just the switch or do I have to replace the whole thing?

You can just replace the switch I posted the link to.

Replaced the ignition switch and the problem still persists. I don’t have the wiring diagrams or the knowledge to read them if I had them but it would seem to me that it has to be a loose harness or failing electronic module that is in line with the blower motor, Stereo, wiper blades, power windows, etc. at what points does the electrical power from all these systems converge?

Check the main power connection under the hood in the fuse/relay panel sometimes they melt and cause problems.

Alright fixed the problem it was an electrical relay. If you remove the cover of the fuse box under the hood there are 4 large relays. two of them are unmarked as to what they are for but I disconnected them while the car and everything was running and it turned out that one was for the lights and the other was for the interior electrical components A/C, Radio, wipers, etc. I replaced the one that I needed and all is well now. Thanks for the help $20 for a problem that had me ready to sell the car.

Hey guys I found this thread because my s70 is having some of the same problems. When I first start the car a few things dont work, the a/c, the wipers the radio and the dashlights; similar to your problem. I was wondering if maybe you could be more specific as to what I would need to replace since im not that knowledgeable about cars. I know you said one of the relays but just wondering which one?
