Default s70 electrical / blower problem

Hoping I can get a diagnosis on these strange electrical problems.

My 1998 S70 has some strange symptoms.
First--the blower is not blowing air so I have no heat at the moment. It was replaced a year ago and with the symptoms listed below I don't think I need a new one.

2nd--When the blower motor is turned to any speed (ECC type) the lights on the S, E, W, and heated seat switches begin to flicker. When the blower motor is turned off, those lights light up continuously like they are supposed to.

3rd--No matter where the blower is set (off or any speed) when I toggle the rear defrost/mirror defrost switch all of the lights in the switches mentioned above go off.

If someone can provide some insight that would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Under the dash on the drivers side there is a bunch of big plugs.
Look for a yellow plug with a purple slider. Pull the slider and remove the plug then reinstall the plug and see if it makes a difference.

NOTE: Have the radio code handy before doing above. It will reset the radio to code.

I found what you describe. There is a yellow plastic block which has maybe 8 connections to it. The connectors are red, green, yellow, blue, etc... Also I noticed right away there was a yellow connector out on its own. It is an 8 pin connector and connected to nothing.

Anyway I tried to slide the purple slider but which plug needs to be redone?

By the way, thanks for the quick response

actually--I see how that part works now. I separated the 2 halves and put them back together but the symptoms are the same. I keep seeing others talk about the "resistor pack", could that be the culprit, and if so, where do I access that part.

Or--any other ideas. Thanks so much

by the way, that yellow connector hanging out on its own has a plastic mounting piece attached to it. It looks like it clips onto something underneath and another wire harness attaches to it. Any idea on what this is?

The Yellow plug that is by itself is supposed to be for an option that your car doesn't have.

I doubt resistor but maybe possible. I don't see how it could be connected to the transmission lights flashing.

But if you want to check it you will need to remove the glove box insert then the lower dash panel. Then maybe the metal knee bolster. If your car has one.
Then the resistor is mounted in the front of the climate box. There is 2 plugs going to it.

hey tech, is there something else you think I should check? It seems like a faulty ground or something with the way the lights flicker and go off. Let me know what other ideas you have. Thanks for the help

What usually happens when the resistor goes bad and the motor.
It will turn on the A/C module will see it is demanding to many Amps and shut it off.
Then the lights will flash to tell you there is codes in the system and something is wrong.

It also doesn't happen all the time.

The blower on my 1998 S70 GLT just quit. Now, no air movement at all.
The fuses are all good and there were no strange noises just prior to the fan stopping. The ECC seems to act normally, with the lights and the timing reset options, just that the blower fan does not work.
I ohmed the climate control fuse and found that the circuit is open when the control is on AUX and shows ~ 53 ohms when switched to 3. Is this normal?
I have learned through previous posts that the resistor could be bad, as well as the blower motor. I removed the glove box and the lower pass. side panel and found the bolster plate. Is that connected to any electrical systems or air bag systems?
I have not had a chance to check the yellow connection under the driver side dash.
Any hints?
Thanks

You can remove the 3 nuts holding the bolster in and remove the bolster.
Not sure about the specs.
But usually both go bad. The motor goes bad and draws to many amps and burns up the resistor.
