Default 2000 s70 cross country leaking coolant

Hi my name is Sarah Im new here and I have a 2000 v70 cross country. It has 127,000 miles on it. I have taken it in the shop and had a new radiator and a starter put in it. the car is leaking antifreeze only sometimes. It has never overheated and the temp gage never even goes close to the red zone. they did a "dunk test" and said that the car was fine. I will notice the antifreeze in my driveway always under the passenger side front tire but again its only sometimes so I dont understand. Does anyone think this may be a head gasket????? It runs wonderful no hesitation no stalling I love the car but at this point I am wondering if it is worth fixing. I was hoping to get someones opnion. Thank you very much I dont know much about cars so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My mechanic is going to do a dye test today too.

check the coolant tank, mine was all cracked up around the hose noozles, use a flashlite to look around the area under the tank for fluid. check it after driving awhile, then turn the car off, wait 15 minutes, use the flashlite. look around the top of the tank, my upper hose noozle was cracked and it was leaking on to the tank, good luck

Default Your Opinion

Hi I was also wondering if nyone thought that the 2000 v70 with 127000 miles is worth keeping. I here many horror stories about that and the 2001 so I am wondering if I should just trade it in. I would love not to have a car payment but I would also like the peace of mind that the car will work fine I have 2 small kids and I would hate to be stranded anywhere.

NADA claims that it has a clean trade in of $4,400. That is better than I expected. I would probably have a mechanic look it over for worn parts and up and coming maintenance before I'd jump. But what would you get?

These cars seldom leave people stranded. I'd keep it and pay to keep the maintenance up. A lot cheaper than car payments. Most people that post things about their cars breaking down, seldom disclose how neglected the car has been. My mom never checks oil, has maintenance done, or anything on her cars, then braggs about how wonderful they are. I poped the hood on one of her cars one day and could not get the hood closed. Not to mention that I found NO OIL on the dip stick.

Thanks for your insight. I was looking at a subaru imprezza wagon but I think you are right about the servicing. The car has been maintained very well and has always been serviced on a regular basis. I just read so many horror stories about this car regarding head gaskets and electrical problems but it is really nice not having a car payment. I think I will wait until the spring and if i have any problems over the winter then I will consider a new car. I love my volvo I just cannot afford a newer one the are beautiful cars but pricey. I realize you get what you pay for too!
