Default 4 digit pin help

Hey all!
'98 S70 Nonturbo for starters...

I recently picked up an info switch for the trip computer out of a junk yard. After a little research found out that Volvo can just turn on my trip computer. The nice guys at the local dealership said they would try to turn it on for me for free. We plugged in the magic Volvo computer and it asks for a 4 digit pin to turn it on. We tried all 3 4 digit pins from the warranty screen in their system. They are...

VGLA Remote PIN key
VGLA Locktype PIN
Radio Code

We tried all of these pins and we even tried the last four of the key code. None of these worked and I am positive it is the factory gauge cluster. Anybody have any advice for me??

Thanks!
Zac from Reading, PA

Default 4 digit pin help

Hey Zac,

Just checking in to see whether you were successful obtaining the correct pin number. I am a new '98 S70 owner and picked up an info switch at the local salvage yard. I'm anxious to get this trip computer activated but don't feel like spending a wad of dough at the dealership.

I would certainly appreciate any advice you can give.

You should have pulled the cluster as well. If it had the switch, the cluster was likely already activated.

If you google search, you may find a thread that has the information about activation. I don't remember off the top of my head but I know a cluster and switch swap in cars prior to '99 will work fine.

Default No Luck

Sorry, I had no luck getting the trip computer working. The switch is the only hardware you need on a 98. The readout already has everything in there. It simply needs to be turned on. The downside to this is Volvo essentially charges $400ish to turn it on. I think this is ridiculous but it is what it is. I wrecked my S70 though and bought an S60R so my trip computer problem is over!
