Default 98 Volvo S70, head gasket issue !

My friend has a 1998 Volvo S70 with the 2.4 litre non-turbo engine with 300,000km.
His oil pressure light came on the the other day, and he went away about 5 mins after it came on. He checked his oil and it was a mustard-brown colour. He just had an oil change 1500km with mineral oil. He went to a mechanic, and was mentioned he needs a new head gasket. I was just wondering how much does a head gasket job usually cost for this car ?
The mechanic told him he could still drive the car if he gets an oil change ever 1200km-1500km until he decides to get it fixed.

Here's a site to help prepare you for sticker shock.

I think aftermarket gasket is $90 US, 4-5 hours labor
I don't care for the mechanic's suggestion. He might run it with a loose coolant cap for a short time. YMMV

What does oil changes have to do with a bad head gasket? As for oil type, I never heard of putting mineral oil in a motor. Is that good?

Well, from what I know about head gaskets, it causes coolant/oil transfer. I wouldn't drive the car with a bad head gasket. Only a matter of time before something goes bad wrong.
