99 S70 Best replacement alternator?

Do not get an alternator from a local parts store. For example auto zone alternators are crap and I have heard way to many stories of people getting them and having problems right away( like a bad pulley or not charging correctly). Here is the thing, a common problem with these alternators is the bearings. My mother has a 99 s70 also and when I pulled it out, I could spin the pulley left and right and the insides would slide a little instead of stopping when the pulley stopped moving. I took the chance of going to a salvage yard and getting a alternator there. I cleaned it up and put it in and it works wonderfully. I got it out of a good looking 2001 v70 awd. I still have the old one in my garage because if I replaced the bearings I bet you it would work just fine. Now the guy above me is correct about the regulator. That can also fail too but is not that common. Typically the bearings go first. You can do that if you want to, but like in my case, I knew the alternator was the original and I would figure that with how many years and miles are already on it, it would be better to replace it. It all depends on your situation.
My 2 cents are this, either get a new one or if you are ok with it, go to a salvage yard. Either way will work. I did all my research before I did the work on my mothers car for her. If you want new, fcp had the best price for a good Bosch alternator and they pretty much have a lifetime warranty. It doesn't say it literally, but if you read there policy, that is pretty much a lifetime warranty. Best thing to do would be to take it out and check the bearings and if they are ok, then decide whether to get a new one or change regulator. I hope that helps!!
