Default 99 s70 t5 turbo blown?

It was running ok when I CA smog cert it in April. Did grt. But kept tripping the gas recycle error. replaced gas cap/hoses. Tightened loose bolts on turbo housing. Then Turbo control blew. Replace w/ IPD part. Told running stronger than ever. 1 mile later, boom, they say turbo blew. Ready to replace turbo. CA smog applies, so if I replace turbo, with an eye to performance, what is suggested?

Not even one reply?!?.

So I talked to IPD about it and they recommended G pop shop http://gpopshop.com/

I also talked to another shop about taking the old one out and sending it for rebuild at G pop shop. Sounded reasonable at $350.00 labor.

Although I'm getting zero replies, I'll keep with updates in case another travels this path.

1999 S70 T5, 160,000 miles, strong w/running well.

in terms of upgrading your turbo, there are two ways to go... First is to match up what make/models have a similar housing (ie straight vs angled flange), second is to determine what "size" turbo you have and what models use bigger turbos. The size is typically called out by a number, ie 15G, 16T, 18T etc. The bigger the number the larger the airflow volume (= more boost potential). So considering your turbo may need a rebuild, you have two choices a) buy a replacement (new or used) that matches your model's housing or b) buy a new rotor/impeller of a larger size and a rebuild kit. Pretty much any/all can be found on ebay including after market direct fit replacements.
You should be able to find something on your model (I'm betting you have a 16T and would look for an 18T to upgrade). Also keep in mind, the ECU ultimately controls the boost but the bigger volume turbos will change the response etc. Also, the downpipe and stock exhaust manifold are restrictive, so you may want to look into an R manifold or a larger downpipe. Do all three - turbo, downpipe/manifold and ECU and you'd get an easy 50+ HP gain.

Thanks mt6127 Helpful and appreciated. Since I'm planning on working with G pop shop for the turbo part, I'll discuss this with them. Prior to the turbo issue, a new exhaust Volvo Turbo Back Sport Exhaust Kit - Angle Flange IPD 114462 and chip was in the running. What would you suggest for a SF Bay resident looking for a R manifold or a larger downpipe? On Line? Salvage yard?

specialty parts like an R manifold may be hard to find at a yard - but you can try searching using car-parts.com... You may have better luck searching eBay or the various Volvo forums' want ads. Larger downpipes can be found on eBay or at various shops - just google, ie try "volvo s70 3 inch downpipe"
