Default AC compressor(?) quit clicking today - it's hot outside!

99 S70 Non-turbo. I usually have to add refrigerant once a season, no big deal. Noticed a week ago that the AC was cycling frequently and the air wasn't as cold as it used to be, so I filled her up with refrigerant like usual. All was fine for a day or so, and then I noticed that the usual "clicking" I've come to know so well from my AC system has stopped. PSi readings suggest I'm good on refrigerant levels. I turn on the AC max and recirc - and all i get is hot air -- no clicks.

Am I screwed? Could I possibly be so lucky to hope that it just may be a blown fuse or do i need to go ahead and get a loan to get this thing fixed?

It's likely that the compressior clutch is bad. If you turn it on, and bump the clutch (front of the compressor) does it engage and stay on for a little while? If so, look to shim the compressor clutch.

ok cool -- i did see some earlier posts about this shim process. When you say "bump", you mean like hit it with my hand or something?

I am trying this on my 99 S70 and noticed that the rubber bumpers are worn, one is almost entirely gone and the other two are decent.

Should this affect the size of my shim? Or can I use the same size all the way around?

Is it possible to narrow the gap TOO much?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. With a broom stick handle or something.

Turn the system on, get a long broom stick handle and try to push the front of the compressor in so that it engages. If it does and stays in, you likely have a clutch problem.

I'm going to upload a video of mine tomorrow. I'm starting to think my compressor is shot. My clutch "engages" more or less, and moves very slowly for about half a turn and whips around for the other half, but it's almost as if the pulley itself isn't turning and is only moving because of the belt. Tried to refill but couldn't get a good reading on my gauge. I had to push so hard to get the damn thing to stay on that the PSI skyrockets and never comes back down.
