Air pump question
My 98' S70 needs a new air pump (without question). How urgent is it to do the repair? The car seems to run fine on a twice weekly 3 1/2 hour @ 70mph drive . This is a crazy expensive repair and money is a bit tight right now, besides,it's ten degrees out in the driveway and I have no garage. Guess what I'm asking is - can I stall this repair for a few months and about another 4 or five thousand miles without doing any harm to anything else? Thanks for your help.
Can you check with a salvage yard to see if they have a pump? I'm not sure but I believe the pump only helps the car during warm up time and it may cause the car to run a little rough during that time and should not cause any damage driving without it.
I have a 1998 S70 that I acquired a few months ago. The check engine light came on 2 days after I bought it (go figure). I finally had it verified at a small garage, and it was a fault code for the air pump. It ends up the air pump has been removed altogether, hence the code. I don't know how long it has been like that, but it could be years. Apparently the air pump is used for injecting air into the exhaust to help the catalytic converter get up to speed faster while the engine is warming up. I have no intention of replacing this pump considering the cost, the value of the vehicle, and what I just spent to repair other stuff
I drive 1250 km per week.
