Default Air pump question

Hello everyone.
I just bought 98 V70 T5 a few month ago. Never had a Volvo before. Always had Japanese cars (and never had to look for air pump on them). So my Volvo ignorance is great.
I'm trying to troubleshoot the Check Engine light (code P0410 - Secondary air injection system malfunction). What I'm trying to do is to locate an air pump (diagnose it)and follow the air hoses until they lead me to some valves and hopefully troubleshoot them too. There is a lot of gray area in all this for me: per Chilton's Repair Manual, there are 3 valves. One of them is called PAIR valve (if I’m not mistaking, that’s the one that could possibly set the Fault light on), and I’m yet to hopefully find it and check it. As per repair manual, they refer to an air pump as to a belt driven unit. But in my users manual there is a picture of a side view of the engine with the pulleys but the air pump is not one of them. Reading through the forums I’ve come across the advise from ‘tech’ to a S70 owner to look for an air pump under the battery tray. So I have 3 conflicting stories here. On top of it all I don’t even know how the air pump looks like. So would anybody help me to locate the air pump, PAIR valve and anything else that could be responsible for P0410 code. Many thanks in advance.

Val

The air pump is under the front drivers side bumper.

There's a good write-up on air pump replacement on volvospeed.com. Here's a link to it:

Good luck!

Thank you very much for a fast reply.
In a case if the air pump is full of water would it causethe pumpto stop functioning completerly? Is it possible to drain water out? May be take the pump apart and clean it?

Many thanks...
