Default Alternator

Looks like my alternator is on it's way out - 11.8 volts is all it's putting out.
Can't find a Stickey for it, does anyone have a link to a tutorial? I can't figure out what to do with the Power Steering Pump. Does it need drained and disconnected?
Thanks, Don

You don't have to drain it just remove the three bolts that hold it to the engine and move it out of the way (hoses intact). The bolts are hidden behind the power steering pulley wheel so remove the serpentine belt first. You can then put a socket with a small extension through the hole in the pulley. You will then need to remove two bolts on the bottom of the alternator that also hold the A/C Compressor to the engine block. Loosen the bottom two bolts on the A/C compressor to allow the alternator to be pulled out. There is one bolt on the side of the engine (same side as serpentine bolt) that holds the top of the alternator to the engine block - remove it. Now tilt the alternator towards the front of the car and pull it up a bit to clear the A/C compressor (A/C compressor must be able to move slightly towards front of the car). Wiggle the alternator out and up and you should be good. Hold on tight to the alternator it's sort of heavy.

You may be able to find a step by step on Matt's Volvo site.
