One of Solders on my relay looks like it is burned. The solder looks brown with maybe a hairline crack in it. I didn't see it when I looked but my girlfriend noticed it. I hate my bad eyes.

Well I put the new fuel pump relay in on Monday and threw some Lucas fuel injector cleaner in it. Today coming back from my lunch break it died again. I turned it off and started it back up. It ran perfectly fine Monday until now but it was the same situation with the old relay. What else should I try? I don't know how much more money I want to put in this car. Just passed 200k miles and I might just buy something newer.

Does it act like it is running out of gas or does the tach just drop then the car stops?

Then it has to be ignition related.

Is the plug in the cam sensor good? Or is it falling apart?

Well, I took the car into a Volvo servicer today. They changed the spark plugs and I guess the last person to put a fuel filter in the car installed it backwards. So he put a new filter in aswell, but the car still has the randomly cutting out problem. He says it might be the fuel pump and he wants 350$ for the pump. Do you think I should have the pump replaced? Is 350$ expensive for a new pump?

That is not all that bad of a price. But he can tell if it is the pump if he drives it with a fuel pressure gauge connected to the car.

He says it had fine fuel pressure but it didnt repeat the problem when he drove it. I was looking on ipd amd they have the fuel pump for around 200 but they have the fuel pump assembly for 400 whats the difference?

You can replace the pump motor only. But IMO I would do the entire assembly if you can and if it comes to needing a pump. I have seen alot of the plastic assembly's crack and cause leak diag. codes.

But get him to verify it is the pump using the gauge first.

So I've just been driving my car waiting to see if the fuel pump would just quit working. Well yesterday while merging onto the freeway my check engine light comes on. I pulled the codes:

P0300
P0302
P0303
P0304

All misfire codes?

Does it still sound like a fuel pump? Anything else I should check before I buy a fuel pump?

No sounds like an ignition problem. Like a cap, rotor, wires or coil.
