Default Better performance in Economy than Sport?

I have an automatic T5, and my performance is better in Economy mode than Sport mode. I tried a 0-60 run in Sport mode today and clocked in at 7.9 seconds. When the car was first released, the stock 0-60mph was ~6 seconds, and it sure feels like ~6 in Economy mode... I mean, the turbo just plain rockets you like a wild S.O.B!

What is interesting to me is that in Sport mode the throttle is easier to pull when you push the pedal, and you shift at higher RPMs like it states in the owner's manual, but in Economy mode the turbo seems to really kick in more than Sport, and the throttle seems tougher to pull open. Is there something going on here? It doesn't really seem like I should be getting an 8 second 0-60mph run in Sport mode. (The car is 14 years old, but it's still kinda fishy that I lose 2 whole seconds...) Maybe the turbo is not engaging in Sport mode? I don't know much about cars, so this is really a mystery to me! Any advice will help!

I have a GLT, and the few times I've used sport mode it has seemed slower to work than economy also. Economy is quite peppy. I've also noticed the petal is harder to push in economy.

its all in your head; mostly. Shift points change (holds gears longer) and maybe firmer shift.
