Default Looking to Buy - 1998 better than Other Yrs ??

I am looking to get my Fiancee a Used Volvo C70 (1998-2000, Hardtop Coupe, preferrably a 5 Spd Manual). As I have been researching it out, it seems that people tend to think that the 1998 Model Year is less troublesome than the 1999 or 2000. It also seems to be getting better User Reviews and Ratings.
Is this legit? Is there truly any difference in reliability, or does it tend to get better reviews b/c it was the first model year?
Is there any downside to getting an Automatic vs the 5 Spd (if I can find a 5spd in my area and range)?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Market 75, I've had to break this reply into pieces in order to get the server to post it.
Market75, I purchased a used 1998 Coupe recently and found that many of the part numbers are different from the 1999-2002 models. You have to be more careful with servicing, the mechanics goof up ordering, so consult the forums and parts sites to see what you're needing first, for sure. You might even bring the parts to the mechanic and save yourself a day (or two...or three) with the car sitting unnecessarily.
