Default Brake Job

Hello

just had a brake job done at the local Volvo Dealer, was $1740.00, I cannot believe I let them get so bad.
They had to replace everything.
There goes my summer vacation money.

wtf, thats a scam, My job was $700. Even Firestone putting on OEM parts it would have been $1000. Hope you got damn good brakes.

Oh and the $700 was for brake pads AND rotors

ah ok, your price seems alittle more fair now, I thought you had meant a regular pad/rotor replacement

Default RE: Brake Job

Juststarted a brake job on my 1998 S70 T5 today. I completed the front with OEM pads for under $100. It's easy if you've done brakes before, just needed a 7mm Hex (Allen) socket since I already had the C-clamp and other tools. It took about an hour because I'm a bit meticulous when it comes to brakes. Will do the rear brakes tomorrow, it seems fairly easy and straight forward according the the Chilton manual, just had to purchase the service packs in addition to the rear brakes and grease (prevents squeaks), it cost another $100 at the dealership. The rotors are a bit worn but didn't neccesitate replacement, at least that's what my wallets tells me. Too bad these rotors can't be turned because they are made of a soft material.

Total parts if you had to purchase four rotors also would have been about $1,080 (from the dealership) the rest is labor. You can find cheaper material, but that's something I'm not comfortable with. The price the dealer charged was a bit high, but that's the way it is, either buy some tools and do it yourself (would be nice if a buddy with the know-how can help) or find a reputable independent auto shop that specializes in European cars.

Don't know why they had to replace the hoses and all. How did it get that bad? Did they exaggerate?

Sorry about your summer vacation.
