cam shaft seal
I am leaking a lot of oil.. I took off the hose connecting to the turbo and oil is in the turbo.... I have an idling issue and I put a post up and someone said it could be my cam shaft seal leaking into my distributor..... now it looks like the leak is coming from right in front of the turbo but can't see exactly where.... I am assuming the front cam shaft seal is the one more towards the front of the the car... now does this sound like a front or rear seal leaking?
I just replaced the camshaft seal in my 1990 740 turbo. Wasn't a big deal. Yes, it was in the front of engine. Not sure how similar your engine is to mine, but you may be able to remove timing belt cover and see if it is leaking there.
I assume you have a S70 since you have posted in this area. When people refer to the front they mean the end of the motor that has the timimg belt. When they say aft, the mean the end on the drivers side, closest to the turbo & distributor. Yes there are two seals on each end.
The important thing is to make sure you deal with the cause. Internal pressure inside the motor can cause seals to leak. Make sure the PCV system isn't plugged.
