Question Check engine light on, codes read...what opinions are there?

Here is what the codes read (Advanced Auto read the codes for me)

P0172 system too rich (bank1)
P0422 Main Catalyst below threshold (bank1)
P0133 02 sensor ckt below response (bank 1 sensor 1).

Basically the guy at Advanced auto said that it's either the Oxygen sensor or the catalytic converter.

He suggested I might want to just replace the O2 sensor first as it's only $139, compaired to $500 for the catalytic converter and see if this fixes the problem.

Thoughts?

Hi wendy,
I would recommend taking it to a independent shop to tell you EXACTLY what the problem is. I have had autozone guys try to sell me parts I did not need on atleast two occasions.

Besides that, I would never purchase a O2 sensor from Auto anywhere. Either get one from a wrecked Volvo or the stealer. Get a real live genuine Volvo sensor. I have gotten 2 from the yard near me and they work fine. $25 each. I just figure that it was likely good when the car was wrecked.
