Check Engine Light Shut Off
98 S70 155K
My daughter who is away at college recently bought a used S70 sedan. For the last week or so, the check engine light has been lit. Between school and work, he hasn't had a chance to get to a parts store or shop to get the codes read. This morning, when she started the car, all of the dash lights came on (which is normal) and turned off except for her friend the check engine light. Then a few minutes into her drive, the light turned off. It hasn't turned back on (except for when she restarted the car--then it turned off with the rest of the dash lights).
So...
If she has the codes read, will they still be there?
Has the problem perhaps resolved itself?
If the codes are still there, does it make sense to have them checked anyway?
Could the light/computer be malfunctioning?
Any input from veteran Volvo owners is appreciated. I'm a newbie to this Volvo thing.
Thanks.

It's a little unusual for the cel to go out. There is a chance that maybe the fuel cap wasn't on tight and now it is. Yes, I would still get codes read. The She/He stuff is a little confusing.
I'm thinking gas cap, too. Are there any other conditions where it can remedy itself? Contaminated fuel?
Sorry about the gender confusion. It was simply a typo. I'm a good writer but a poor typist. My daughter is all girl, sorority an all.
By the way, I have two daughters driving Volvos. Big Sis has an S70, after wrecking her 850 Wagon and walking away without a scratch. That is why Little Sis got a Volvo 960 Wagon. I want to keep my girls as safe as I can.

Yea, my daughter totaled a 960 and drove to get me and then home. She didn't even realize it was totaled. A pole and a ditch. The check the insurance company gave me enabled me to get the S70 she drives now. I just wish she would slow it down. Maybe she has. She quit using the GPS when she found out that I could read her max speed.
I couldn't get my daughter in a 960, especially a wagon. She wont even drive mine.
Had a little bit of a hard time driving the yellow 850 I had.
