Considering Purchase of 1998 s70
Hello, I am considering buying a 1998 s70 that the owner says needs a head job done to it. Upon checking other cars available for sale it seems that there are a lot that have mechanical issues. What do I need to be prepared for if I am to purchase this car. What is the going rate for redoing the heads on a volvo. I have never owned a volvo b4. Also if anyone can refer a reliable mechanic in Orlando, FL. it would be greatly appreciated.

is this a T5, GLT or NA?
I wouldn't touch that car until the current owner fixes it for you and proves that no check engine lights are on. To put a head on (there is a place in Clearwater FL, that sells refurbished heads called Clearwater heads or something like that), they charge $400 for the head and then it's your labor. They want the old head.
You have to know if the timing belt, serpentine belt, PCV, all tensioners, and front end has been redone. Doesn't sound likely though. Also I guarantee that you will be putting a new radiator on it as well if it was never replaced. Check for turbo leaks everywhere.
Unless you can get it cheap, I would steer clear unless you are real handy. I have a 98 S70 T5 and have done an enormous amount of work that I didn't expect to keep it running. It's an old car.
You are looking at 2K to replace the above at a minimum. Say you get the car for 1.5K then it's a possible deal. Paying 4K for the car is way too much and steer clear.
