Default Coolant flush

I had a Volvo dealer flush the coolant at 34,000 miles. When will I need to do it again? I was thinking at 70,000 when I replace the timing & serpentine belts. The shop I bring it to won't charge me any additional labor to change the hoses & thermostat if I do it then.

I'm no expert (and I know I have abused my cars in the past) but that seems pretty frequent for changing hoses and the thermostat. (This is probably bad, but I just flushed my coolant on my Eclipse for the first time at 149,500 miles. I've never had a problem with it and the coolant looked fine coming out.)

There's a little seepage around both ends of the top hose, and the coolant is pretty dirty.

That is a good time to change it.
Most Dealers do it with every 30K service.

I do mine at every 30,000 mls/3 years. I've worked on a '94 Ford Aerostar once and did a flush on it; brown coolant with some solid deposits inside the engine block[8D]. Coolant & brake fluids are neglected waaay too often.

JPN, I was totally expecting another scolding from you about my poor maintenance schedule... I think if my cars didn't treat me so well by not falling apart,I would be a poster child for your campaign for improved car maintenance.

Oh well, I'll look forward to the scolding next time I post something dumb I've done to my cars, although those habits are dying.

Hi, 99VV70,

I hope my personal maintenance policy didn't sound offensive to you or to other members. Absolutely no offense intended.

I'm just sad to see cars not being taken care of, because it is a waste of resources and the next owner would suffer too.

......

No, no. Not offensive at all. I was just kidding since you've caught my poor maintenance habits in the past. I am doing much better these days though.
