Default cooling problem....

My 2000 S70 now has a cooling problem. When I was driving today the A/C would not work so when I got home I charged the system and found that the compressor is not kicking on. more searching shows the system is running hot (top of the guage). Coolant level is fine and when I squeeze the hoses the level in the reservoir jumps up and down. I changed the thermostat with no success.
1. the system blows heat when the heat is turned up.
2. the radiator is cool to touch.
3. the belt is not broken so I have to assume the water pump is working.
4. the car seems to run fine.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? All I can come up with is a water pump replacement.
Thanks
Fred

Is it pressurizing? The hose should be very hard to squeeze once hot.

Also, which gauge are you going on? Dash? Possible the sensor is bad?

The system is not pressurizing at all. It has to be the water pump. I have a feeling I know what I will be doing on Sunday...haha!
