Need help. S70 2000 no start. My ground cable dropped off. Engine died. Put back on. Ran fine for 30kms. Then died. No spark at coil or plugs. Replaced coils (no distributor). Still no spark. Suspect crankcase sensor. Fuel pump fine. Could any unknown to me fuses be blown?
how to check the sensor both on and off the car. It's a 3 wire plug not 2 wire. How many volts should I get at the plug? I'm thinking 12volts. If the ecu is sending out 12volts does that mean the ecu is ok and not burnt out? I love my volvo.. help!
On a 2000 your best first step would be to scan the car with a compatible scanner to check for any self diagnostic trouble codes. You can monitor all sorts of parameters (of things that make the engine run) also. A crank position sensor is a rare failure - for older cars failure was common - but not so much for the aluminum block cars
Here's the spec on the speed sensor - bad ones the resistance is way off - or the insulation is damaged. Sometimes they get damaged from a foreign object loose in the bell housing (rarely)
Have no clue - 2.5 or 5 volts probably. But I do know if the resistance is ok with the sensor you are looking in the wrong place and should guess somewhere else. What codes are stored? That should be your first step. On the chart there's a description of every one of the 120 wires going to the ECU - very rarely does anyone refer to this stuff - What codes are stored?
I know you said fuel pump is fine, but humor me here. First thing I ALWAYS do when I have a no start situation on a car is this. Get some starting fluid and spray a 2 second burst of it into the air intake or the throttle body and try to start the car. If it runs for a couple seconds and then dies, you have a fuel delivery issue, if it does not start, you have an electrical or timing issue. It only cost a couple bucks and a few minutes of your time and will save you from chasing the wrong cause of the issue.
Immobilizer - There is a chip in the key that talks to an antenna ring - the ring is mounted around the steering column lock - if the key is recognized the immobilizer allows the car to start. There is no way to fool it - so don't try.
Do you have an injector signal ($5 noid light flashes when plugged into an injector wire and engine spun over)
What codes are stored?
You can view live data and sensor operation on most quality scan tools also.
"I have fuel but no spark." - that means you have x fuel pressure? Or "gas sprays out of the shreader (sp) valve when I push the release tip"?
