Doing timing belt... water pump too?
Having done multiple TB's on BMW's I always changed the water pump as well. Is this also recommended for the V70? The manual is on the way so my answer may be there but I figured I'd go ahead and get the pump on the way to save time.
BTW: the vehicle is a 1999 V70 w/ 120K on the clock. It's a new car for my oldest son and the TB hasn't been done yet.
Also, any other advice / suggestions regarding this car would be gladly accepted.

Yes... absolutely do the water pump. This goes for ANY car with an interference engine and a water pump that is run by the timing belt. Also, you should replace the tensioner and idler pulleys. They're not that expensive, and it's good insurance. You can re- use them, but I don't like to. Absolutely replace them if they make noise when rotating, have any lateral play, or there's evidence of grease seeping from the seals. Make sure you use good quality parts... OEM, or Continental, Gates, Dayco... don't go cheap on a timing belt or the tensioners. It's one job where saving $20 could cost you thousands.

I would say no to the water pump unless there is a sign of it leaking. The water pumps on these cars almost never fail. There is no sense in replacing the water pump with a cheap aftermarket unit if the factory Volvo pump is working great. We do not replace the water pump when we do the timing belt at the dealership, and I have yet to see one fail on a five cylinder.
