The easy way out is to replace the entire latch. What has happened is a protection circuit (inside the motor) has gone bad and has weakened the power going to the locking motor.
I have opened up the latches, removed the motor, opened the motor, removed the circuit, installed a solid piece of metal, and put it all back together and have not had an issue since.

Age is tough on these little electric motors. I had the sun roof fail to close for a weak motor. I pulled out the motor and inspected it. I happen to know how to fix that kind of stuff so I took it apart. Dirt, corrosion and grease deterioration cause thse motors to get weak.
I thik it took me about 30 minutes to take it apart, completely clean it, replace the grease and put it back together. But if you don't know how to do it, you may make it inoperable. I would bet that this problem causes the protection circuit rspi mentioned. I would have one concern bypassing that circuit in that it probably acts as a safety in case a hand or finger is in the way when it closes. But I don't know that for a fact.
