driver door "open holder" broken?
I don't know what this thing is called, the thing that hold the door open for you in two different spots. I'm sure it has to do with the flat bumpy piece that goes into the door at the upper jamb and is attached to the frame. That piece is still attached, but the stops don't work anymore. This was precipitated by a very loud metallic sound when I opened the door a few days ago. Since then I have had the door bang into my shin a couple of times, so I would like to fix it. After the loud sound, the next time I drove the car something metal fell down inside it. I am guessing that it's a spring that either got dislodged or broke, that pushes against that lever, maybe with a roller, inside the door. I've never had the door panel off, and the ALL DATA subscription is useless for this. Maybe if I knew the official Volvo name for this thing it would help. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

It's called a Door Check and they fail (usually from not lubing it 2-3 times a yearand it becoming rusted)
If it pulled out of the body door jamb, expect to have to weld it back in (body shop)
If not, it's a pretty easy replacement.
get a flashlight and look at the inside (to the body) attachment and see if it's in one piece
