Default electric window switch malfunction

I rolled passenger window down with driver's side switch, but now the window won't go back up. Either with the driver's switch or the passenger's. Funny thing is that when I roll down the back windows from the driver's switch, they won't go back up either from driver's switch, but will from the back switches. How do I determine if it's the passenger switch that's bad or the acutal window? Window is stuck in down position so I hope it does'nt rain before I figure it out!

The master switch is bad. (Very common)

Is the master switch the one in the driver's side door? And why won't the passanger's switch activate the window?

Yes the master switch is in the drivers door.
Also sometimes it is so shorted out it will break the connection for the other switch as well. Or the other switch is bad as well.

Thanks for your help and fast response. Am I safe buying a used switch from Ebay or is this something that should be purchased new?

I would go new.
They are very common to fail. If you were to buy one used it might go bad really fast.

Yeah, sounds like it could be both switches. Hopefully the master will fix, fingers crossed.

Rzskier,

If you need to get the window up before it rains, pull the main switch up and jump it with the one that you know works (the driver side), unhook it then unhook the passenger side (all one the main switch on the driver side) then hook up the passenger to the driver side. Jumping it like this will at least solve your problem momentarily.

Then put tape on those switches to prevent anyone from rolling them down, or just disconnect them. Takes about 10 minutes to jump it.
