Engine Stalling
Hi I am new and I have a question and would appreciate any input you could give me. I have a 1998 s70 t5 and the engine cuts out every time I drive it. When I accelerate or I am just going down the road it will feel like the car pops out of gear but its then engine stalling out. Also whenver i am driving through town and get stuck at a traffic light and am waiting for longer then a minute or so the engine will turn off , Then when i go to start it , it fires up then dies immediatly then the second time i turn it over i pump the gas pedal and it tries to die but it then revs up and this process happens every time it stalls out .
Thanks for your help, Matt

RE: Engine Stalling
Hi The check engine light is on but it was hooked up to a Snap On scanner and it read that it was a secondary emissions leak or something and my dad is a mechanic but is not to familiar with volvos he has turned the light off twice but it keeps reappearing.
My fater had also just installed a new fuel filter about 3,000 miles ago the car has about 136,000 miles on it.
But i will try the fuel pressure test thanks for the input. Matt

RE: Engine Stalling
Hi Matt,
Our very recent edition to our garage of cars is a V70. Last Friday it died in the backside similar to your experience. The previous owner reported intermitent stalling problems over a two year period. The Volvo dealer replaced the airflow meter - twice in three months, and just about every other sensor. My newly found Volvo mechanic with 40 years experience said. " there are no fault codes" - "I feel that the fuel pump is stuffed - and the mileage would support the theory - you can do a pressure test on the fuel system but most likely the in tank pump will not play up at the time of testing - the on board computer will not record a fault with fuel pump". End result, the fuel pump was replaced - no more probs. Albeit I feel sorry for the previous owner.
Cheers ...... Nick
