I just purchased a '99 S70 with 60k original miles (in FL thats great). It is not the GLT nor the T5 model but I am considering of trading it for a GLT with 64k. If the deal doesnt favor my way (they are selling it for 7.5k and im asking 5 for mines and ill cover the difference) I was considering putting a GLT engine or T5 inside. I was thinking of a VMS engine...Question would the swap be an easy install or a headache for my Volvo mech.? Also would a T6 S80 engine work? That was the one engine I would splurge on if its not too much of a big deal..

 

The question I am going to ask if if your going to implant a T5 engine, why not just find a T5 car to begin with?

 

Simple..Its much easier to find a pampered GLT than a T5 in the same condition. A very large percentage of Volvo owners who opted for the T5, generally purchased it to play. The T5 was purchased by many owners who kept their wives ignorant about its true value. So in my opinion, I would go with a GLT since that engine carried great potential to tune...keeping insurance rates down as well.

 

Well as I see it doing an engine swap is throwing money down the drain. When you can buy a nice T5 for close to the same money.
