Default Full-size replacement tire for donut spare

Hello everyone; I'm new to your forum and posting for the first time.

Ihad to install the (unused) Continental spare donut tire in my1998 S70 a few days ago. It held pressure fine, but 1 mile down the road at 35 mph it was complete toast: multiple sidewall holes you could put your finger through, I guess it sat in the trunk for 10 years and dry rotted. Seems kind of unusual to me, I've certainly had 10 year old spares that worked fine in the past...who knows? Anyway, heads up if you've got a Continental spare donut tire in your trunk: may be worth checking to see if it is good.

I want to buya normal "full-size" spare. I put one of the wheels fromthe car into the spare tire compartment and it fit pretty well: maybe raised the carpet by 3/4" or so.It has stock steel wheels, and so I just want to buy another stock steel rim. This is what I have found so far:

Steel Rim:
Volvo p/n 9157507
Pattern: "16 hole"
Bolt Circle: 5 x 108mm
Center Bore: 65mm
Size: 6.5 J x 15 x 43

Tire:
Model: Bridgestone Turanza LS-T
Size: 195/60R15

The funny thing is that I cannot find anyone selling them. This forum has several wheel and rim dealers listedon the resources page, but they seem to only carry aftermarket stuff, not just a plain steel wheel. I checked with a Volvo dealer, but their price was around $130 for the rim and I would rather not spend that much.

I was thinking that you folks had probably dealt with the "replace the donut" problem in your S70s before,so I wouldlike to ask your advice instead of reinventing the wheel (yeah, I've been waiting to say that!)

Thanks very much for the help.

David

I have recently ran into the same problem. Anybody have suggestions as to where one could procure a cheap wheel to put a full size spare on?

Unfortunately junkyard is really your only option, but they're scarce; took me over a year to accumulate 4 good steel rims from a yard. I waited because I really didn't want to spend over $100 apiece for these....

Might ck D. Waltrip volvo; he discounts a lot OEM parts...

If you are close to Louisville Ky, or have a friend or relative in the area, there is a volvo mechanic with a junk yard close by. He has a whole field of volvos, I have bought several parts from him, a fuse box lid, and cooling air hose for the the computer box for $15 and a cold air intake tube for $5, very well priced, I bet he would sell the wheel cheap also.

We also have a couple of used Volvo spots in Central Arkansas. You could call junk yards around weekly and check for wheels. I do have a full size spare in my 850. It was there when I got it. That thing needs it with those low profile tires.

As for the other's, I check the spares often, probably once per quarter.
