I have a friend who has a '98 RWD S70. I've been talking to him about my V70 towing equipment installation and he brought up his S70.

He wants to know if anybody out there has or does tow with theirs, and if so, what your experiences are in regards to weight and handling. His main interest is basically how much weight he can realistically tow with it.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

 

1. S70 are all FWD as far as I know.
2. Towing specs are in your owners manual; pretty light duty if i remember correctly; small boat or trailer should be fine, but certainly not a cabin cruiser...

 

That's what I thought also. I asked "Are you SURE it's RWD?" I told him I haven't heard of any RWD S70's but he said he was positive, which I'm wondering if it's AWD and he may not know that. Maybe he sees the rear diff and thinks it's RWD.

I know the manual is a bit conservative. I don't think he wants to tow heavy duty. I think he just wants to know how much he can get away with without destroying it, like most of us do.

I personally wouldn't tow anything with this kinda car. If it's a regular base engine, forget it, cuz the power isn't there, and it would put strain on the transmission. Try to get some other way to bring the car, I'm sure anyway would be better than towing with a little engine.
