Default Hi guy's new here and I have a typical newbie question

I am looking at buying a S70 T5 5 speed and I am curious if someone can help me. I am very mechanically inclined but I am very new to Volvo in general. The car I am looking at has about 188,000 miles and the previous owner said that he replaced the timing belt at 150,000 and he recently put brakes (pads but the rotors are warped) pads and tires on the car. What things should I be looking at to check out...any known problem area's?

Can someone tell me what this hose is. When I looked at the engine the owner has this hose taped up with tape. I attached a red arrow pointing to the hose I am referring too (I hope it worked ok). I know this is a non turbo engine shot but it is the only one I couldfind. Just disregard the blue arrow. Is this part of the PCV or turbo bypass system or emission control stuff.

I am going to check the site over and see what else I can find out. Thanks guy's

Matt (newbie)

It's the flex hose that draws fresh air into the ECU box for cooling. Not a big deal; tape over the flex part of it is not an issue...

Thanks gdog.

On a S70 5 speed can anyone comment on where the clutch typically engages. The one I drove seemed to engage really high off the floor. The owner said he never replaced the clutch. It did not slip when I drove even in the higher gears and under load. I am sure it will be due for a replacement soon. But do they normally engage low off the floor, halfway up, at the very top??

Is there any adjustment that can be done?

I drive a 1999 Volvo S70 T5 and I was really weirded out by the clutch when I test drove the car. The clutch is in good shape but the friction point is really high. A few of my friends have driven the car and they agree that the friction point is much higher than average.

Turbo Matt, T5 means high pressure turbo. So the car you are looking at is not a T5. Also, the blue arrow points to the throttle control cover.

I know it was just a general picture so i could reference what hose I was referring too. Thanks guy's. I am going to pass on this car for now. Just way too many miles and the owner does not seem like he even knows what matainance has been completed.
