Default Hood Latch

I tried to open up the hood on my 98 S70 and only the passenger side releases. The drivers side doesn't release. I live up in Buffalo, NY and it is fairly cold out. Could it have anything to do with that?

I was able to open it just last week know problem. I also took it for a car wash when it was 40 out last week and it gets parked outside so perhaps it froze??

Anyone have any cures for this?

Thanks

Adam

Same exact thing as me. I got a procedure copied and downloaded from matthews volvo site I think to correct it.

The lenght of the metal "cord" if you will that attaches to the latch opener inside the cabin to the latch releases on both sides of the hood is stretched and needs to be tightened one or two turns.

you have to remove the panel below the steering column and then the side panel near your left foot carpet side to get to it.

I printedthe procedure out. But cannot scan it for you.

what I did for two months is open it with a bungee attached to the grill in the garage for tension and then pulled the latch, and it would spring up.

Or had a friend gently pull up on the grill/hood while I pulled the rip cord. It works.

Then I fixed it the right way.

Default Hood Release

I have the same problem.. what I do is pull the hood release, then go pull up on the hood a bit, then go pull the hood release again and that will release the driver side of the hood... maybe this will work for you too.

Sometimes you don't have anyone to help by pulling up on the hood while you pull the hood release..so maybe this will help.

hmmm, my hood latch seems to be getting "weaker" for lack of a better word, should i be worried about it breaking, or will it just continue to stretch?
