Default Hood latch to pull cable...??

Hello,

I've done a search and haven't found my answer thus this post. We just purchased a 98' S70 GLT yesterday. Both hood latches are not working that attach to the hooks on the hood. The passenger side (right) does not have the lever cable that goes from the drivers side (left) to it. So I know why that one isn't working.

But the left one will not catch. I've pulled the latch off the car, seen how it works and see the pull cable. There are just so many ways the pull cable can go and I'm unsure if the previous owner knew what he was doing when he tried to fix this. It does look like the pull cable (inside of vehicle) does need adusting and I'll have to pull the underdash (kick panel) to adjust it some.

I'm mainly interested in a diagram on how this pull cable attaches to the hood latch. If you can help me out, its greatly appreciated. I'm sure I will have more questions as this is our first Volvo, I'm used to Turbo Dodges, Mustangs and my Lexus IS300.

Thanks alot!

Default hood latch

First, congratulations on your S70. I have the same year, its my third Volvo. You can't beat the workmanship and quality. It sounds like you are missing the cable that connects the two latches. There should be a long cable that runs from the driver's side latch to the passenger side. By pulling the driver side cable from inside it pulls on the long connecting cable and releases the passenger side.
Has the front of the car ever been in an accident? Is the hood latching on both sides?
Good luck.
