Can't get hood ope any which way. Anyone have any thoughts on getting the hood open from the outside without the use of the cable at all? And without causing damage to the opening?

I found one thread on this site that has a procedure for doing this with the removal of the driver's side sidemarker, but not sure is this sill work on a 1998 v70 xc.
