Default Ignition switch problem 98 S70

The ignition switch in my 98 S70 will many time rotate when the key is inserted and turned clockwise to start the car. If I rotate it back, counterclockwise it stops at the beginning position, but will just free spin in the clockwise position. After a bit of messing back and forth, it finally seems to work fine. This has left both my wife and daughter stranded a few times. Any suggestions for repair?

The entire switch assembly will have to be replaced on the column.

Thanks for the advice. Is this an item that I can expect to find either aftermarket,or from a junked vehicle? Dealer told me it would have to be ordered from Sweden, 5 days, and cost ~$250 so that the switch is coded to the original key. If I don't mind using a different key to start vs. open the trunck, door, etc. do I have less expensive options? Labor was estimated at ~ $150.
Your advice is eagerly anticipated.
Thanks

Most of te time they get destroyed removing them.

This time you have to bite the bullet and get it done. If you have some skills on cars then you should be able to do it.
