Default Inside Air Vents. I'm having a problem

I have a 1998 S70 non-turbo. I'm having a problem when my air is on that it going from to front vents to the defrost vent to the floor vent. It's does it the whole time the air's on. It's really frustrating esspecially when it really hot.
Will someone tell me what's going on and what to do about it? Thr vent switch control should stop at the front vent selector but it it goes all the way around, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. Wen I have it on one thing I would like for it to stay there and not keep switching from vent to vent. Please Help.

Also I'm hearing ticking from the engine. Is that oil change time of maybe valves sticking? I do have alittle bit of smoke every now and then when I start up.

I can't help you on the first question, but I'm familiar with the ticking. That's the lifters sticking.

I've heard of two causes/solution:
1) Oil pan o-rings need replacing (solution: replace them)
2) Poorly treated engine with lots of sludge (solution: replace oil frequently and regularly until improvement is seen expecting a year or so).

Just for reference, I am trying method 2. A tip that I got (from Dean at www.eEuroparts.com) was to monitor the oil using baby food jars, labeled with the mileage at the time of the change. I've also got a clean sample in a jar. I'm trying this because as Dean suggested when I change my oil, it is very black and sludgy, even after just a couple of thousand miles. We'll see if it improves after a few months or a year. I'm planning on posting a picture of the jars sometime after I have a good collection.

Hope that helps.

Do you have ECC or MCC?
Does the temp have numbers or just colors?

Then it is MCC.
Maybe the motors need to be calibrated.
Also call your local Dealer and have them check your Vin# for recalls.
At one time there was a recall on the MCC panels.
