Just got a old volvo thats been floating around my driveway for a few years
I just got my Volvo s70 after 4-5 years of begging my mom to not dump it, I need to replace the break lines and break hoses, as well as the battery, and other things, but idk what they are yet.
Yeah that's one of the reasons, the break hoses and lines have been replaced, but I've recently learned from my stepdad (ex mechanic so he helps me sometimes, but hates working on that Volvo because he says there's no point in saving it) that the rear axles are bent, it drives but very roughly. My mom has had that car for 17 years (3 years older than me) and it was used before bought.
My T5M (see the "T5M Fixer Upper Thread") was wrecked when I got it, but all the damage was to the suspension. I was parting out volvos, and so I saved a real axle assembly for it, and when I took it to have it aligned (after replacing the frame and a bunch of front stuff) it was close enough that I decided not to worry about it. I later scrapped my "spare" rear suspension assembly.
The regular, not AWD rear axle will come off as an assembly really easily (2 bolts + the shocks) but they're heavy. Maybe "easy" isn't the right adjective here but rather "simple". it is "simple" to remove. it doesn't even have sway bar links to the outside world.
The rear axle is crusher material which presents a paradoxical problem if you actually want one. If you are looking for it, you can't find it, but if you're trying to sell it, you can't sell it either. So it *should be* free if you really decide they are bent. You can't really find V70's and S70's in the junkyard all that much anymore because they're so worthless. it's a paradoxical problem. Parts everywhere but no reasonable system for making them available.
