Default Lights not Working

Hello Volvo Forum users. This is my first post,

Yesterday the headlights, tail lights and dash lights in my 98 S70 quit working. The park lights still work. I had just pulled my boat out of the water, I backed the trailer in with the plug still connected and immediately pulled the trailer out and my son jumped out and disconnected it.

It was dusk and as we were driving home people were flashing their lights at us. I moved the light swith to park lights so the trailer lights worked and held the high beams on by hand for the 12 mile ride home. The high beams wouldn't stay lit witout holding them on.

This morning I checked all of the fuses and none were blown. It's almost like the switch itself is burned out or not picking up a relay??.

Does anyone have ideas of where to go from here?

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Sometimes the switch goes bad. Has a broken piece of plastic inside. You can take it apart and glue it until you get a replacement. There is one in the jy near me if you need a little help, let me know.

Another problem could be the relay. Not likely but possible. I have one of them sitting here next to this computer if you need it. It's one that supports fogs.

Oh, the light switch just pulls out of the place it sits in. Most people push it out from the back.

Hi, I have a 240 and the headlights are out. Fuse was blown but, new one did not change the problem. However, the other items running off the fuse are ok.

I forgot to add the fuse that picks up the relay was blown as well. So I had a double whammy, bad switch and a blown fuse. Cost $125 to repair. Seems high.

Thanks

Bob

did you check the switch? Does yours pick up a relay? perhaps the relay is bad?

In addition, the switch works to turn on the running lights.
