Default my volvo was made in canada - is this good? bad?

I just had some work done on my 99 s70. The dealer later told me that my car was an "outlaw". That's the joking term they use for the rare Volvo that was not made in Europe, but instead in Canada. He told me seeing these Canadian-built Volvos was pretty rare.

Anyone know more about this? I'd like to know - is there anything good or bad about the Volvo being Canadian-built?

Thanks,

Andy

Whilst the majority of cars are built at the Volvo HQ in Gothenburg, Sweden there are, or have been, production facilities atKuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Bangkok, Thailand; China; Pretoria, SouthAfrica; Born, The Netherlands; Kalmar, Swedenand one other.... erHalifax, Canada. So your "outlaw" car is not alone.

I can't see that thelocation of the factory really matters as the vehicles are subject to the same quality control procedures and the "outlaw" plants may be even better as they will be fighting to stay in production. Unfortunately the last 4 in the list have ceased production.

Hey, BofD, is there a letter, or number on the vin to determine which country of origin of the vehicles? If so do you have any way of determining the make of my vehicle with that info??? Just wondering, not a big deal if not. You are in Durham, NC?

11th digit of the VIN is the factory code.

For the '98:-
1 = Torslanda, Sweden.
2 = Ghent, Belgium.
3 = Halifax, Canada.
4 = Uddevalla, Sweden.

I am from the original Durham in England.
