Default mysterious clunk in rt frnt suspension: 98 S70

Seemed to start over a yr ago after I did shocks all around (along with all new OEM or better upper spring mounts and bearings). Thought it was something in the rt frnt strut, but today I took rt frnt strut assembly apart again (I was in there anyway installing new sway bars) and found nothing wrong.

Reinstalled everything and pulling out of driveway for test drive there it is still, "clunk".

Typically happens when turning and going over slight bump (like when entering or exiting a driveway). It's not loud but it's definitely a clunk (not a rattle).

Checked all front end bolts for tightness multiple times, including today; no noticeable play in LCA, balljoints, sway bar links, tie rods, etc. Had the front sub-frame down today to do the sway bar and bushings are good.

Ideas/thoughts/feedback?

You may be aware of it already, but the passengers side engine mount collapses to the subframe when it goes bad. It was the metal to metal clunk that I had, and sounds like what you are describing.
Good Luck.

GDog said he had no noticable play in the LCA (Lower Control Arm).

But if the bushings are cracked or one bolt is just a tiny hair loose it can make the noise.

Sometimes the causes of the clunks are not something you can clearly see.

Thanks for the input, but it's not mtr mount and LCA bushings look fine.

It really sounds/feels like the spring coil is being torqued when turning and something is not allowing it to turn; builds up torsional pressure and then either more turning and/or hitting a bump releases the spring pressure causing the clunk.

This car had very low miles on it when we bought it considering its age (which means it sat a lot). Almost wondering if the rt frnt ball joint is sticking or something. Again, no play in it though.

Well I have had it completely apart and back together twice now w/o seeing anything worn. It's not really bad, just annoying enough to notice. Guess I'll wait till it gets worse and then i can find it..

Thanks again for the input!
