Default New 98 Volvo S70 GLT

Hey everyone I just got 1998 Volvo s70 GLT, like 2 weeks agoand I have some questions.

What is the stock turbo, whats the brand name? is it bigger than T3, T4 or about the same?
Also how much PSI does the stock turbo on my car produces?
And also, what is the difference between s70 GLT and s70 GLT T5?

1. Welcome

2. Your running 5-7 PSI stock

3. I believe it is a 13g same as mine. TD04HL made by Mitsubishi. The GLT is an LPT (Low Pressure Turbo) and thr T5 is an HPT (High Pressure Turbo). Other differences as well.

Thank you very much, You have a very nice car friend. Can you explain about the

I also have one more question about Compressor Bypass Valve, if I was to install BOV, do I need to drill a hole in the IC pipe? so I can weld the bov? and also would it affect performance, would aftermarket bovhave negative effect on the turbo? I just wanted to do it for the sound.

Thank you

Can I explain about the what?

You have two options for mounting your BOV.

1. Upper IC Pipe. You have a shop drill a hole and have them weld an ALUMINUM flange over the hole on the Upper IC Pipe. Just like mine on my car. And it has to be an ALUMINUM flange because the UPPER IC Pipe is ALUMINUM. Then you run a vaccum line to your BOV.

2. Buy the SAMCO hose kit with the BOV hose found here,
http://www.vivaperformance.com/catal...roducts_id=135

And run the SAMCO BOV found here,

http://www.vivaperformance.com/catal...roducts_id=641

You can run your BOV at the same time as your CBV and or you can block your CBV off with a Blanking Plate found here, http://www.quickbrickmotorsports.com/prod_blanking.html

If you do block your CBV off you will run the vaccum line that is going to the CBV to the brand new BOV.

Um depends on what BOV you get. A TURBO XS like mine is prone to leaking. Why do I have one? Because it was cheap. I suggest getting a real not a fake HKS SSQV. This is a great BOV. On automatic cars a BOV wont go off unless you let off the gas also since your not running high high hgih amount of boost you wont see any performance from it other then sound.

Thank you again, I ask too much questions I know . becauseI want to know. I just mistyped "explain about the" so dont worry about it, you answered my question.

And again I have more q's. If I was to run both bov and cbv at the same time, can you explain how it would work, both of them? And also, will the sound be loud enough?since the turbo is stock.

More questions are great and am glad you want to learn more and more. Always here to help.

The CBV is currently venting the excess boost back into the intake track. While a BOV will vent to the atmosphere. You can get recirculating BOV's as well which will do the the same thing as a CBV by venting the excess boost back into the intake track. So by running both your just doing two things. The CBV is venting excess boost back into the intake track and the BOV is venting the excess boost to the atmosphere. Yes the sound will be loud enough, even though you have a tiny turbo running small amounts of boost.

So, the best choice would be to get recirculating BOV? is that what you have? and also is HKS the only one that worth buying? is there other good companies that make recirculating bov's?

Also, im surprised that our tubos produce only bout 5-7 psi, i thought it would be more since its a 2.4 Liter. When me and my father were changing the headgasket, I saw the turbo and it was pretty big. I thought it produces somewhere around 12-15 psi.

s70 glt's have a low pressure boost setup. The T-5's get the full pressure. A recirculating BOV would be the same as a CBV which you already have installed(venting it back into the intake). Some BOV have the option as being run as CBV, but if your going for the sound then dont hook it back in.Also you might want to check out the thread with all my q's in it, since I am in the same spot as you, pretty much.

A CBV like you already have is doing the recirc issue. You can get a BOV that does the same thing, but if you want sound don't set it up as a recirc BOV. HKS is a reall nice BOV and worth the money. A Greddy Type RS is another decent BOV as well. TIAL is a great BOV. I would go HKS SSQV or TIAL.

We have an LPT engine (Low Pressure Turbo). Also the turbo may look big but it isn't. A 15g is bigger but not by much and a 16T is bigger then a 15g but not much bigger then the 15g.

L was Luxe.
DL was DeLuxe.
GL was GrandLuxe.
GT was GrandTouring.
GLT was GrandLuxeTouring

"Grand Luxury Touring," but it could as well mean "Good little turbo."

** c0pied form places**
I use Good luck Turbo, since whoever I race, I wish them good luck, and turbo cuz T = turbo

if your talking about s70drives ecu chip, it cost $325 +shipping. They turn your turbo psi up to around 12-13. They also change some other setting aswell. Your cars hp will got from 190 to 230. Your torque will go from 270-350. Blue = stock Red= upgraded. Can be bought here

My ECU upgrade....

Tuner: SpeedTuning USA
Price: $325
PSI: 12PSI chip. Stock my car was around 5-7PSI. So the ECU upgrade rasied it about 6PSI.

Our tiny little 13g turbos are at their effeciency range at 15PSI. Over 15PSI and the turbo wont perform right.
