Default New Idea for Rear-shelf speakers and more

I've been reading through several threads and forums about the issues with replacing the rear-shelf speakers in our S70s.

I understand that the factory speakers are rated at 8ohms, since both the rear-shelf and rear-door speakers are running off the same 2 channels from the stock amp.

What if one were to simply disconnect the rear-door speakers (which you really can't hear from the front given their location), and then had new wires run to the rear from the amp?

Those would then be rated at 4ohms correct?

I ask, because I've found some 8" 3-way speakers rated at 4ohms on Ebay for a shade over $50. They aren't the nicest in the World, but I'd imagine they'd be an upgrade over the cruddy paper-cone OEM speakers.

Currently I have 1 blown speaker in the rear, and also a blown speaker in the front door. So I'm just considering replacing the rears as mentioned above, and replacing my 2 front door speakers with some 6.5" Polk's from my old car stereo. Would I be running into an issue up front with power? i.e. are the front door speakers rated at 8ohm as well, or 4ohms?

My 2nd idea, is to replace everything. I have 4 6.5" Polks from my old car that are more than adequate, as well as a nice 12" sub in a sealed enclosure.

EXACTLY what should I be looking for to replace the head unit, dash speakers, and rear-deck speakers?

I'm assuming the head unit would need at least 6 channels of Pre-Amp outputs, possibly 8, to power all 8 speakers and the sub.

I used to know a bit more about car stereos, but I haven't been keeping up.

Almost a month and no ideas from anyone?

Think I'll cross-post this in the stereo forum.
