Default New quirk on old AC problem...

I've searched and dug and can't find my specific symptoms listed anywhere. This is my first post here, but not my first anywhere. It goes like this...

'98 S70 T5 (Absolute blast to drive this car! I'm loving this thing so far.)

I start up like normal. AC gets up to speed and blows nice and cold after a bit. I head down the road. Everything is fine.

When I hard accelerate, the compressor shuts down as expected for added HP, but doesn't come back on. I know, clutch, but that's not the end of it.

I can push the engine through another hard acceleration and almost every time force the compressor back on (sometimes I miss, but get it on the second try). Cycling power on the AC doesn't do it. Not even turning the car off and back on will bring the cold air back. Is this still a clutch problem? The car has been in the family for many years and this problem has been around for a few of them. If the clutch was just plain bad, wouldn't it stay off, or wouldn't it have completely failed by now? And shouldn't restarting the car jog it?

I got to thinking maybe it was a switch of some sort (not sure how that mechanism works for accelerating), whether solenoid, or other.

Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated...

When it stops blowing cold check for power at the compressor if there is power it is in the clutch and most likely needs to be shimmed.

Will do, tech. Thanks. I don't carry a multimeter with me, but I'll check it tonight. Since I can't recreate the symptom at will, it should be pretty easy.
