Default No oil in dipsitck and dark slimy residue on back of car.

Hello,

As you can tell I am knew not only to the site but to Volvo. I purchased my car back home (In Canada) and drove it back down here to (FL ~1200 miles). The car got brand new tires, brakes (all around) and fluids. I checked the oil today and noticed that (after i cleaned it and replaced the dipstick) there was no oil on the dipstick. I know you might think I know jack about cars and why am I asking this... but I live in a house full of car nuts (they are gone for the summer). The oil light has never come on. But one thing i did notice was the dark flim of residue on the entire back end of the S70. It's kinda sticky but i know it's dark, i've never seen it before. I noticed when i start the car, the check engine light comes on for the first minute or so... but then goes away. (I want to say it's the check engine, but it may be the service light, I can't recall. Is that normal for the serivce light to come on for about a minute or so when the car is started...? I will double check tomorrow) Anyways, I'm going to go out tomorrow to grab a couple quarts and put it in and see what it does, then check is everyday to see if it goes down. I know if it does, then my rings are probably gone. I'll also get my buddy to look at the exhaust and see if it's blue...

Info about the car:
1998 Volvo S70. 105,000 miles. History of the car not known. I know there are a number of scratches and paint scrapes. There is some road rash on all the rims, but more so on the passenger side front. The car rides great like any volvo does... just hope the car's engine is messed up. Not much rust (odd being from Canada with the salt), and it quite clean.

Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated.

Maybe the oil is leaking?

Where in FLA are you?

In Volusia county.... I don't see any oil drips on the garage floor... and if the leak was that big then i'd certainly notice one... and FYI it is the service light... lol. I look and I don't even have a check engine light....I'll be out to get some oil later today.

So I look under the car when i come back from Auto Zone..... about 5-10 minutes after i park there are 4 separate puddles of oil... ranging in size from about 1/3" to 1.5".... all on the drivers side... about from mid-axel back half foot or so....I don't know if it's still burning oil.. but it certainly leaks...

The service light stays on for about two minutes every time you start the car after it's been 12,000 mi. (I think 12,000 mi. might just be for the turbo models).

I'd say a new oil filter, but the oil filter is on the passenger side.

I saw oil on the coolant line running to the bottom of the radiator... and dont' know where the rest of the oil is coming from.... it's all on the driver side. My buddy and I will lift it up tonight to have a look.

If all else fails and you are close to Orlando I work Down town. You might be able to bring it in for cheap and have us look for the oil leak so you atleast know where it is leaking from.

If you want more info on where I work PM me and I will send it to you.

The vent system might also be clogged causing the leak to be bad.

Excess pressure builds up in the motor and forces oil out the seals.
