Exclamation Oil Change In a '98 S70 GLT

hi, i have a '98 volvo s70 glt with 148,xxx miles on it, and i heard someone said that Service light comes on every 5,000 miles. So my quastion is it better to change the oil every 5,000 miles when the Service light comes on, or every 3,000 miles??? Thanks Ahead!

It depends on what oil you use. I use synthetic oil and bosch or k&n oil filter so i usually change my oil every 5000 miles.

My service light is always on so i just ignore it cause dont wanna pay dealer to reset it. But 3000 miles sounds right for castrol gtx oil.

I would agree, unless you drive mostly highway and usually longer than 10,000 per trip. Then 5,000 would be fine. Oh, also, I would replace the oil ever 6 months.

If you take short trips the oil is worn faster because it cools and heats more often. My wife use to drive 4 miles to work every day so I replaced her oil every 3,000.

I guess I should also add that I don't think you can replace your oil to often in a turbo car. So, 3,000 or 6 months whichever comes first would be great.

+1 to rspi. If regular dino oil, I highly recommend every 3,000 miles. Of course this question ALWAYS prompts debate, sometimes quite heated. This is just my opinion. If the car were mine, 3,000 on dino, 5,000 on synthetic.

ok, thanks for the heads up guys! going to change my oil next thing tomorow! lol its been about 3,500 - 4,000 miles since my last change.

oh and while we are on a subject of oil change, is getting rid of that Service Light hard? or is it easier to just visit the dealer every 5,000 miles? (by the way its free where i live)

You can buy a tool that plug into your obd ll port and you can reset it yourself and its easy. If its free from the dealer then just take it there it dont take long to reset it.
